Good Old Days
As we all know that this season is the ideal opportunity for discovering satisfaction in arranging and celebrating of different festivities and celebrations that unites families and companions. With different degrees of lockdowns and limitations in different places, it is safe to accept that the current year’s festivities will be totally different to those in years passed by.
My beloved neighborhood Vigan City, is known
for its all around protected Spanish Colonial town, historical places of
interest, flavorful food and luxuries. The Vigan City fiesta is held out of
appreciation for St. Paul the Apostle, the city’s patron saint on 25th
of January every year. Local tourists and travelers assemble to experience and
watch the famous street dancing, trade and food fairs, and carnivals adding to
the fascination of this UNESCO World Heritage City. Biguenos from the different
part of the country and even overseas return to Vigan City, as it is the custom
of Filipino to get back to their old neighborhood to join their loved ones in
the special occasions that they celebrate. They are united with the many guests
from different locations of the country and different nations in appreciating
the social shows, street dancing and parades by the Biguenos.
As cases of COVID-19 continue to rise around the globe, the safest place to celebrate the different festivities in our country or community is in our home. As we all know that mass gatherings are still prohibited due to this pandemic that’s why we should spend more time with our family and loved ones. By following the different health and safety protocols, to at least slow down the spread of virus. Let us all hope and pray that this pandemic will going to end soon so we can freely celebrate our fiesta and the different festivities in our neighborhood just like the good old days.
I agree that celebrating the festival of Vigan City is different this year because of the ongoing pandemic. I like that you included the occurrences during the festival and how they can't be implemented this year because of the needed preventive measures. I also hope that the pandemic will end and celebrate our festivals the usual ways. Keep safe and have a nice day!
